Description:
This outhouse in Udaipur is conceived as a contemporary retreat that merges clean modern architecture with a relaxed, landscape-driven lifestyle, responding sensitively to its semi-arid context and scenic surroundings. The built form is articulated as a multi-level composition with strong horizontal planes, projecting balconies, and a flat roof terrace, creating a sense of openness and visual lightness. Elevated on slender columns, the structure allows the ground plane to remain porous and visually connected to the landscape, enhancing ventilation and reducing heat buildup. Large glazed openings and wrap-around balconies establish a continuous indoor–outdoor relationship, framing views of the surrounding hills and capturing soft natural light, especially during sunrise and sunset.
The landscape is designed as an extension of the architecture, with a broad, open lawn acting as the primary foreground that emphasizes the scale and horizontality of the structure while providing flexible recreational space. Peripheral planting and boundary greens subtly define edges without obstructing views, maintaining a sense of openness. The integration of shaded sit-outs, transitional semi-open spaces, and minimal hardscaping ensures a fluid movement between built and natural zones. Climatically, the design leverages shading devices, overhangs, and vegetation to create comfortable microclimates, making the outhouse not just a visual statement but a functional, breathable living environment suited to Udaipur’s climate.
